Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How do you accept payment? I accept checks, credit cards, PayPal, Google Checkout, and eLayway. You have the choice of adding items to the Main Shopping Cart, or checking out quickly with Google Checkout on each product page. PayPal is an option at the Main Shopping Cart Checkout. I further accept credit cards by phone, fax, or mail. Checks and money orders may be sent with mail orders. I do not retain any credit card information. If you have any problem with any payment method, please call me at 512-291-4114. and I can take your information over the phone. Credit cards are sometimes declined for various reasons such as inactivity, too much activity, out of state restrictions, limits, incorrect information such as billing address, errors, etc. Online Processors usually rely on AVS (Address Verification System). Some Bankcard Issuers do not support AVS. AVS matches the customer's numerical data entered in the Billing Address fields with the Bankcard's billing address on file. A mismatch is rejected. This is why it is very important to make sure you enter the exact billing address for the Credit Card you are planning to use. Reentering the correct information, upon receiving an error message may result in a duplicate response. If you have received an error message, it is best to wait some time before reentering the correct information. Gift cards for the exact amount of the order may be declined because online processors often charge a token amount ($1) for preauthorization (this is refunded immediately upon processing), and therefore the remaining balance is deficient. If your order has been rejected, there may still be a hold on the funds in your account until the next business day or two.
  • What is your return policy? My wind chimes carry a 30 day 100% Satisfaction guarantee. If you are unhappy for any reason, return them in the original box within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Shipping expenses are the buyer's responsibility. Please contact me first for authorization.
  • Why can't I hear or play the audio samples? I offer embedded players on each product page, which means the audio file is loaded with the page. Depending on your computer settings, the player may not appear. I also provide links to the audio files with the green play buttons on each product page as well as on the right panel of every page. Firewall and other computer settings may affect playability for these files also. Windows Media Player is the best default player for your audio files, especially for streaming. Quicktime is difficult and wants to open another page. An alternate method is to actually download the audio file to your computer, and then open to play. To do this, right click on the green Play button and choose Save Target As to a convenient location. These files are small so take only seconds to download. They are actually mp3 files with a wav tag. The wav tag helps some media players to open mp3 files directly.
  • How do you hang wind chimes? Suspend securely and directly from a strong hook or bracket where there is a steady unbroken breeze. Since these wind chimes are heavier than most, a bit more steady wind is required to generate a decent attack. It may seem that there is a lot of wind, and the light weight chimes are going, but in actuality, the wind might be broken and diffused by trees and other obstructions. The wind catcher is designed to ride the wind like a box kite, and will swing left and right, perpendicular to the direction of the wind. Hanging from ropes and tree limbs can cause a pendulum effect upon the entire assembly, resulting in less action. Good locations are high up on corner house eaves where the wind whips around. Suspend at least 12 inches from any wall or object. Experiment with different heights and locations, taking into consideration the seasonal wind directions. Sometimes the wind is not strong enough to energize the catcher to swing and will instead keep it slightly aloft and pushing gently against the downwind pipes. If too much or not enough wind, then relocate. Also consider the proximity to other brand wind chimes that may not meld together musically. For indoors, a small fan may be used. They may be placed near doorways and windows for any incoming breeze and also to allow visitors to brush against them either accidentally or intentionally. Some tie a string from the wind catcher to a door.
  • Is there any maintenence required? Since there are no wood parts, there is no need for any periodic treatments. Just use soap and water when needed, and occasionally clean inside the tubes with a pressurized water hose to clear out spider webs and wasp nests.
  • Why do you use 8 tubes instead of 6? 8 tubes allow full expression of the tonal range of 1 1/2 octaves.
  • What is your musical background? I learned to play acoustic guitar as a teenager. Later I joined a drum circle which occasionally performed publicly and privately for compensation. When I picked up the didjeridoo, I had the opportunity to record in a couple of studios, and thus became interested in a studio of my own. While I earned a certificate in audio engineering, I ran a small demo recording studio and began to produce songs of my own. I now perform in a band called Message From Space.
  • Who is Stephen Burnham? Stephen Burnham is the originator of the internal pinned suspension system for hanging the metal tubes of a wind chime. Stephen also pioneered the popular top suspension ring, the aerodynamic angled windcatcher, and the central anti-node activation. He licensed to me his ideas in 1983. Since then, many other wind chime makers have adopted these designs, most without acknowledgement. Jeff Kile, now retired, worked for Stephen previous to his founding of Grace Note Wind Chimes. Larry Roark, deceased, interviewed me about wind chime designs prior to his founding of Music of the Spheres Wind Chimes. Woodstock Percussion bought Windsinger, Stephen's daughter Laura's version of her Dad's designs in 1999, 2 years before Stephen's death. Woodstock does give credit.

"Hello, I'm tardy getting to this, but I just wanted to tell you how much pleasure your set of chimes (Summer Simmer Tenor) has given me since I set them up a couple of weeks ago.
