At any given moment, there is a certain amount of lightning activity between the Earth's surface and the upper atmosphere. The fundamental vibration of this energy (thunder) has been calculated at an average of 7.83 Hz, well below the threshold of human hearing. This is known as the Resonant Frequency of the Earth, and can vary somewhat due to the temperature and thickness of the atmosphere. There are also higher partials involved, but they are not harmonic due to the curvature of the earth. The fundamental note is B in the -2 octave and 25 cents sharp of standard concert pitch (A440). I have composed Earthquake Wind Chime 6 octaves higher with the 6 purest harmonic intervals of simplest ratios: 1/1, 2/1, 3/2, 4/3, 5/3, and 5/4, represented respectively by the diatonic degrees 1, 8, 5, 4, 3, 6. The result is a hemitonic pentatonic scale that in one inversion resolves to a Major Ninth Chord (1 3 5 7 9). Compatible with Lunar Eclipse Wind Chime and Solar Flare Wind Chime, all three are available in a discounted set as Celestial Harmonies.
