Born in the deserts of New Mexico, Debra started playing piano and writing poetry at an early age. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music Theory from Western Michigan University, and began making windchimes in 1991 after she moved to the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by her partner, Davis Blanchard, Debra sold her chimes at the Eugene Saturday Market for many years, as well as attending numerous arts and crafts fairs in the area. Debra publshed her first poetry book in 2006, the same year she produced her first solo piano cd and spoken word cd. As a multimedia artist, Debra is committed to creating beauty in as many forms as possible.

Review Deb is brilliant sound worker- she is quite a natural talent. She seems to know chimes and how to put the sounds together for a brilliant sounding chime. I had a chance to see some of her work, other than a chime to order, and all of her chimes are mesmerizing- which is the very least I can say. The most I can say is that her music and poems are just as brilliant. If you are looking for an awwesome chime, Deb's are the best.

Review My favorite thing about Debra's chimes is that the center piece is also a chime so when it rings another chime you here two tones! Also this particular set has an unusual selection of notes reminiscent of a flamenco guitar line from old Spain....very nice!

Not your father’s wind chime!

Review You cannot judge what you will receive by the audio example on the website because Debra Mathis will give your chime a unique tone. I asked for a low tone, D#, F#, B, D#, D#, which is just right to soothe my savage breast.

You cannot see the workmanship. I had only seen chimes wherein the bars were drilled through at their ends. But that can only prevent them from vibrating freely. So Debra Mathis suspends the bars of her chimes from their centerlines. I think she does this using faerie dust.

You also cannot tell what your chime will look like because Debra Mathis has not asked you about your selection of gemstones. I asked for my birthstone, amethyst, all over. Each one was expertly knotted in place, obviously designed to last indefinitely outdoors.

The winds though, are fickle, while my bedroom doorway is a constant width, I am six feet tall, and my shoulders are also consistently wide. So I hanged my Debra Mathis chime above the doorway, where it announces my entry and exit, whenever I wish to feel exalted.
